Matthew 8:23-26 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” 26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. NKJV
Have you ever found yourself on a “mission” or in a “ministry” confident you were following the leading of the Lord? You had many confirmations about the “Father’s” business. You know because you know you are following God’s leading. And then, a “tempest” (storm) of challenges rises up in your path and you find yourself panicking and questioning the whole thing?
The disciples followed the Lord’s direction. They were in the right boat at the right time. The “mountain” before them, the storm seemed very dangerous. They were grabbed by fear. But we know that fear is not of God.
And then you hear the voice of the beloved: “oh you of little faith.”
Matthew 17:20-21 “…assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. NKJV
The Lord proceeds to show the disciples how it is done. He commands the storm and the sea to be calm. With Jesus in our “boat” every dangerous circumstance changes, it is transformed into a “calm.”
At a different point He equips and instructs them:
And He never leaves us on our own. He said:
Hebrews 13:5 I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. KJV
The Holy Spirit in us reminds us of the Lord’s words. He encourages us and refocuses our spiritual eyes on the Truth. Let’s persevere in depositing the Lord’s precious Word in our hearts. When the need arises, the Holy Spirit can bring forth that one Word, that one verse that touches our spirit. And then, our spirit rises like the Lion of Judah and we step forward with authority and confidence to take back the “land”, change the atmosphere, and release His peace, His love wherever we are.
This is a great reminder of how powerful God is. In times of trial and challenge, which as humans we face everyday, we must remember that even with “faith as small as a mustard seed”, our Lord will protect us. Whenever I feel fear———- I know that it is not sent from God so it has no place in my heart and mind. ❤️❤️ Thanks for this
Thank you for your sharing and insight in these truths. Yes fear is a spirit, not of the Lord. He does not have the right to dwell in a Christian.
Ps 91:9-11 If you make the Most High your dwelling — even the Lord, who is my refuge — 10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; NIV
These are such great promises for us. Our job is to “make the Lord Most High our dwelling.” And He says He will take care of the rest.
Glory!
